I enjoyed ‘traveling’ and taking in the different locations.

Laura Dave creates a strong sense of place in the city of Austin, Texas taking the reader on a tour of the University of Texas and the areas surrounding campus. However, I did like the setting for this novel. This character trait seems unrelatable and unlikely for a wife searching for her husband. She is also void of emotions and extremely quick to excuse actions of those around her and forgive. To me, it felt like poor character development in a novel with very few characters. She’s both gullible and perceptive as though the author could not decide how the main character would react in some situations. I could come up with multiple other solutions that did not result in this plot.Īdditionally, I found the protagonist to be frustrating. Logically, I did not understand why things HAD to unfold the way they did.

It also felt unlikely that these chain of events would force a person to go into hiding or vanish altogether without further explanation. I couldn’t buy into the character’s back story or motivations. The whole plot seemed far-fetched to me and not worth all the trouble it’s causing this family. The build up to the climax of this narrative fell flat for what ends up being at stake. While this book is fast-paced and full of domestic suspense, when questions finally start to get answered, I immediately lost my interest. For the first half of this novel, I was engaged in the page turning mystery and the search to find Owen Michaels. 📚| Review: The Last Thing He Told Me is another Hello Sunshine book pick with mixed reviews.
